Punam Sah
Director of Husk Power University
Punam heads the Husk Power University (HPU). She is responsible for taking the HPU into its next stage of evolution, wherein it is envisaged to be a vocational university. HPU envisions creating a system of incremental learning for rural youth with minimal formal education; through skills acquisition in the classroom, supplemented by their work experience. She is responsible for leveraging HPU’s indigenously developed learning tools and methods and scaling it through linkages with prevalent systems of vocational and technical training, while introducing an innovative credit-linked certification mechanism. This is expected to create a career pathway for rural youth and those in the unorganised sector to earn a degree over a span of 10-12 years, without compromising their livelihood incomes.

Punam is passionate about rural development. She brings to HPS, 16 years of experience in the development sector encompassing grassroots community work, social and policy research / advocacy, academics and project management. Her expertise is in the area of rural livelihoods, food security and skill development. She has written and published articles and reports on these subjects. She has a penchant to turn challenging development propositions into real and replicable possibilities. She is skilled in innovating methods for effective and speedy outcomes on projects.

Punam has a graduate degree in Economics and a post graduate degree in Social work, both from Mumbai University. She holds a national certificate for university lectureship and finds teaching most gratifying. She appreciates Indian classical music and dance and is an ardent student of the kathak dance form.
